Welcome to Ward 3 Bicycle Advocates

As DC moves forward with its plan to expand dockless bikeshare, it sure looks like the model the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will follow will be to permit only those companies whose bikes can be locked in a secure manner. See recent Press Release.

This will put even more pressure on cyclists throughout the City to find a place to securely lock their privately owned bikes in the face of a lot more bikes on the streets. The needs are especially great here in Ward 3, where bike infrastructure efforts, including installation of secure bike parking options, has lagged well behind areas close to the business and monumental core.

This post in the first of a series of blogs that will show exactly where in our Ward we need more bike parking. Our hope is this will inspire every reader to begin taking photos of places where DDOT should install more parking. So if you see a spot, take a photo and send it in to wa*****@gm***.com, along with a description of the location. If every cyclist in Ward 3 helps out in this effort, we should have the locations documented for DDOT in short order.
